Sisters With Transistors (us/ 2020)

1h 26min, Director: Lisa Rovner, Narrator: Laurie Anderson

The film "Sisters with Transistors" (2020) takes a new look at the history of electronic music. The field, which is considered a male domain, is - finally - illuminated along its female protagonists. Filmmaker Lisa Rovner shows how much influence female musicians still have today. She spans from the early electronic pioneers such as Daphne Oram and Delia Derbyshire to the early minimalism of Pauline Oliveros and the psychoacoustic works of Maryanne Amacher to the modular synth experiments of Suzanne Ciani and Laurie Spiegel. With Laurie Anderson as the narrator, an impressive portrait of these composers unfolds, whose visions continue to influence electronic music today and have so far found too little representation in the historiography.

This project is presented in the framework of We Are Europe in collaboration with Todays Art Festival.
