ARTE - Through the Night with... Pamela, Srecko und Elevate
Pamela Anderson, actress and fourteen-time Playboy cover girl, whose socio-political commitment in recent years has attracted attention, meets Srecko Horvat, the young Croatian philosopher and co-founder of the DiEM25 movement, which is now competing in the European elections. A conversation about climate protection, animal welfare and love. And a plea for more commitment.
Srecko Horvat is picking up Pamela Anderson at the hotel. Already on the way to the Schlossberg in Graz, the first autograph hunter is stalking her. Anderson complains about the countless ugly photos of her and thinks about publishing even a book with her worst photos. The night begins with a gruesomely beautiful ride on the Grazer Märchenbahn deep into the mountain, which especially inspires Brother Grimm fan Pamela Anderson. On the way over the architecturally spectacular Murinsel at sunset, they talk about Hugh Hefner and sex in the digital age. Both agree: Monogamy is the true revolution. The Limo is already waiting to take the two to the opening event of the Elevate Festival at the Orpheum Graz, where preparations are still in full swing. Here they meet the Nigerian environmentalist Nnimmo Bassey and winner of the Right Livelihood Award and talk to him about environmental activism in Africa. Very concrete and informed, Anderson talks to Bassey about the problems of reforestation in Africa, while Horvat talks about the big picture. The star guest of the evening is Pamela Anderson, who enters the stage in front of a full and tense auditorium and talks about her way from pin-up girl to activist. Srecko Horvat then joins in, and together they explain the need to take action. Afterwards they enjoy a late dinner at the vegan restaurant Ginko Greenhouse, which is open only for them. To Anderson's great surprise, Horvat now also becomes an autograph hunter: Both his sisters and his brother-in-law would like to get autographs from the ex "Baywatch" star. The last location of the evening is the double spiral staircase built around 1500 in Graz. On this evening it seems to be a symbol for the discrepancy between thinking and acting in the field of environmental and human rights and an appeal to bring both into harmony. On the twin spiral staircase, Pamela Anderson and Srecko Horvat run towards each other, to distance themselves from each other again and finally say goodbye exhausted and inspired.
