Andreas Exner

The vegetation ecologist Andreas Exner has worked for many years in research projects at the University of Vienna, and has been politically influenced by the environmental movement. Among other things, Exner has engaged himself as part of a team at Attac working on ecology and globalization, which has ultimately evolved into the "Social Innovation Network." This Network searches out alternative systems of growth and works towards being a meeting point for anyone on their way to organizing a path out of the prevailing direction of development or are already well on this path. On top of that, Exner is the editor of the magazine Streifzüge (Forays), and serves as acting councilor for the Austrian Chamber of Labour in Carinthia. His current focal points are the theory and critique of capitalism, solidarity economy, and community and the environment. In conjunction with Birgit Zenker and Werner Rätz, Exner released the volume, "Grundeinkommen. Soziale Sicherheit ohne Arbeit" ("Basic Income: Social Security without Work") with Deuticke Press in 2007. In 2008, he published his current book "Die Grenzen des Kapitalismus. Wie wir am Wachstum scheitern" ("The Limits of Capitalism: How we fail at growth") with Ueberreuter Press.
