Copyright, Permissions & Fair Use: Replication and Dissemination in an Internet Age
Who owns the rights to artistic work in today´s networked society? How do artists and creative practitioners position their work in relation to existing regimes of copyright and distribution? How is authenticity defined when digital images can be easily replicated? As an increasing number of artists engage with digital tools and platforms, how do they retain ownership in our contemporary culture of sharing, reposting and stealing?
This panel brings together leading cultural practitioners who are at the forefront of critiquing how digital tools and platforms are redefining ownership, distribution and forms of sharing within contemporary culture. Faced with challenges to traditional copyright resulting from peer-to-peer applications, free software and file-sharing, this panel will offer new perspectives and speculate about what it means to produce, disseminate and share work online.
This panel was curated together with our partner festival Resonate from Belgrad.
