Florian Philapitsch studied Law at the University of Vienna, he also obtained an LL.M. in Information Law and Legal Informatics in 2002 and a PhD in 2006. In 1998 he cofounded Juridicum Online, Austria's first IT-law-initiative, established at the University of Vienna. From 2002 to 2006 he worked as a Scientific Assistant at the Department of Information Technology Law and Intellectual Property Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, specializing in copyright and competition law. In 2007 he became deputy head of the Austrian Communications Authority as supervisory authority over collecting societies.  Florian Philapitsch has been active in Creative Commons since 2004 and became Austrian Legal Project Lead for Creative Commons in 2006.
