Occupy Gezi is a nationwide movement in Turkey which was formed in protest over the authoritarian government of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and more specifically against the redevelopment of Taksim Gezi Park in Istanbul. From May to July 2013 multiple occupations and demonstrations took place, some of which resulted in violent police operations. This oppression led to a desire to experiment with new forms of socialization. As a result, public discussion forums on various topics were formed nationwide over the course of the protests. The main concerns of the participants are freedom, respect for human rights and democracy. Solidarity rallies were held all over the world.
