Shilla Strelka is a freelance cultural journalist, music curator and concert organiser, based in Vienna. Main focus of her journalistic and curatorial practice are sonic experiments, dissident digital dialects and idiosyncratic outbursts of artistic expression. Strelka is interested in direct forms of communication and the political potential of shared experience. Her research interest circles around post-fundamental concepts of (sonic) communities and the politics of aesthetics.
Strelka initiated the concert series Struma+Iodine in 2012 which focusses on contemporary (electronic) music production and tries to overcome the dichotomy of high and counter culture. Searching for communal rhythms, structures and concepts between media- and artistic self-reflection, her main concern are musical articulations at the fringes.
Strelka curates the Unsafe+Sounds Festival since 2015. She was co-curating this years' Electric Spring Festival and co-organizes the open-air concert series Parken in Sigmund Freud Park, Vienna.
Strelka has written texts on music, fine arts, film and popular culture for mica, skug, donaufestival Krems, sixpackfilm, Elevate Festival, Wien Modern and Rokko's Adventures. She is working as press-assistant of the music label Editions Mego and djs regularly as Inou Ki Endo.
