When people say today that you can only be successful as a DJ by releasing your own music, they might be right from a mainstream point of view. But they are still overlooking the nerds, heads and diggers building the foundation for a scene with their passion and dedication and attracting broader attention with their fine selections and sophisticated techniques. One of these specialists is Linz-based Memet Acuma, who can tick off all the crucial points of a prototypical underground DJ profile: Huge, diverse record collection? Check. Started DJing in his early youth? Check. Experienced in various music styles? Check. Skills? His scratches and cuts over house and techno tracks, surpass even those of some hip-hop DJs. Sure, this sounds like the biography of every other wannabe DJ, but they are actually just following the lead of people like him. As long as he is one of the most frequently booked DJs in his home state, that doesn’t bother him at all. In the end DJs like him are creating the soundtrack for a scene and demonstrating the fine distinction between mere entertainment and the thing called club culture.
