Brave new world? We experience data-hungry smartphones, self-driving cars, drones and robots, fitness apps and smart TVs - permanently connected to the Internet. Anti-social media create filter bubbles fostering further social polarization and undermining the fundamentals of democracy. The digital world we all inhabit is dominated by powerful corporations and their algorithms, but how often are we aware of it? To what degree are we already being remote controlled?

Which decisions should we as a society or even as humanity at large delegate to algorithms? Can we consciously limit the application of our technologies, as Ivan Illich once suggested? Or do we have to adapt to its unstoppable dynamics? Will we loose the autonomy promised by enlightenment in this digital age? And who stands to profit? These questions will be debated by exciting thinkers and activists.

Through the We Are Europe festival collaboration, the Sónar Festival from Barcelona as well as the Insomnia Festival from Tromsø, Norway, will be visiting and co-curating some of the sessions.
