The new Frontiers of Investigative Journalism

The "trust crisis" which is shaking a large number of European democracies on the political, economic and media levels, reminds us of the necessary exemplarity which the actors of the public debate must show. To guarantee it, the role of an independent fourth power is essential, in order to ensure that the rules of the democratic game are respected. Investigative journalism fulfills this role. Far from being a new practice (think of the Watergate scandal revealed by two journalists from the Washington Post for example), this form of monitoring is being renewed today, and is venturing into new areas: environment, discrimination, health… Above all, this journalism relies on new technological tools which offer it new means of investigating and open up new horizons.
