Dylan Ettinger is currently based in Bloomington, Indiana, where he makes electronic music using various analog synthesizers. He has released music through labels such as Digitalis Industries, Not Not Fun, and his own El Tule imprint.
His album New Age Outlaws has gained a lot of attention not only for its sci-fi ambient drift created with analog synths, but the way Dylan created an entire alternate reality around that music, referring back to a particular way of imagining the future set between the 70s and 80s. As Tiny Mixed Tapes wrote: "How can we not be fascinated by the past's clumsy, tentatively optimistic imaginings of a future we now know doesn't have much of a bright side?... Like so much of the new psych, New Age Outlaws is less about imagining than about remembering what it was like to imagine."
The psych dub of Dylan's latest Not Not Fun EP Lion of Judah suggests a new, albeit related direction, one referencing No Wave synth. Live, Dylan's shows incorporate synth and vocals, and are certainly influenced by 80s UK pop and its preoccupation with the future.
At this moment, Dylan is working hard putting the finishing touches on the follow up to New Age Outlaws. The new album is titled Lifetime of Romance.
