Born in 1984 in Regensburg. Studied double bass/musicology in Germany (HfM Dresden, HMT Rostock) from 2004 to 2013. Her final thesis in 2013 received the special prize of the Faculty of Philosophy of the TU Dresden. 2010-2013 master's programme "Performance Practice in Contemporary Music" with Klangforum Wien (Graz Art University). Since 2013 research work on "Stagings of Listening in Contemporary Music Theatre Works" (Ph.D. at the University of Art Graz). Freelance work in the field of contemporary music with ensembles from Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, including Ensemble Zeitfluss Graz, Ensemble Diagonal Basel, Klangforum Wien, Ensemble AuditivVokal Dresden, Ensemble Modern. She attended master classes with renowned interpreters of contemporary music: Stefano Scodanibbio, Uli Fussenegger, Joelle Leandre, and Frederic Stochl. Festival appearances at Lucerne Festival, musikprotokoll, Warsaw Autumn, Klangspuren Schwaz, World New Music Days, Young Euro Classics Berlin. She has received grants from the Graz University of the Arts, the Stockhausen Foundation, the DOMS Foundation Basel and the Richard Wagner Scholarship Foundation. She started her own projects as a performer in the field of improvisation/performance/chamber music with concert appearances at festivals and concert series for improvised music in Austria, France, and Germany.

Margarethe Maierhofer-Lischka also works as a music journalist and critic for specialist magazines in Austria and Germany and is active in the Graz music scene (e.g. music theatre project "Orpheus" at Theater am Lend, concerts in the series "interpenetration", sound installation "20seconds of noisense" at Galerie esc medien kunst labor). Her main interests are contemporary and improvised music, music theatre and the border between art and technology.
