Born in 1950 in Baden bei Wien 195, Marlene Streeruwitz studied Slavic and art history. She was a journalist for the economic magazine „Natur ums Dorf“ and has been working as a freelance writer, journalist author and director ever since. Streeruwitz has been publishing literature since 1986, including novels, short stories, essays, plays and poetics and also poetry lectures in Tübingen and Frankfurt. She lives in Vienna, Berlin, London and New York and has been awarded several prizes including: 2008 Peter-Rosegger-Prize, 2009 Droste-Prize. In 2004, she rejected the Baden culture prize, because the then Foreign Minister Ferrero-Waldner was scheduled to give a speech. Recent publications include: Ich, Johanna Ey.
