Roly Porter

Roly Porter is better known as one half of Vex'd, the seminal Bristol duo's dark, industrial output on Subtext Records which set the stage for many current dubstep trends. Porter has always fancied the more experimental end of the electronic spectrum. After taking a sabbatical from music for a few years, Porter returned in 2011 with the highly lauded debut solo album Afterlife, an inspired foray into both modern classical instrumentation and experimental composition. He owns up to his rather bleak, post-apocalyptic musical agenda from the get-go, and yet the LP resists easy labeling. Relying extensively on analog sound sources, Aftertime features elements of drone, bass, ambience and techno that build into a sinister film score of sorts. Porter maintains the menacing undercurrent of his mythical Vex'd cuts as a solo artist, while doing away with the floor-filling sounds of days gone by in favour of a more distinctive deep mass of sound.
