Sensational feat. KOYXEи + DJ Scotch Bonnet

Sensational was born into the world of beats as Torture, a name perfectly befitting his dusted productions and not-ready-for-prime-time style. In 1995, Torture came to the attention of WordSound through producer Bill Laswell, who had worked on the Jungle Brothers sessions. It was a match made in heaven as Torture changed his name to Sensational and released his solo debut, Loaded With Power, an album like no other in the annals of hip-hop. Unlike most rap producers, Sensational has never been one to sample, but plays all his sounds live. He released two singles for the popular indie rock label Matador before dropping his third full-length, which continues on a trajectory for outer space. Sensational recorded his Get on My Page for Mike Patton's Ipecac label, before returning to WordSound for his fifth release, Natural Shine, produced and recorded by DJ KLOS. KLOS also produced the follow-up, Speaks For Itself, as well as the new mixtape The Best of Sensational. In 2005 Sensational started collaborating with Kouhei Matsunaga, Japan's doyen of noisecore. Until then Kouhei had already collaborated with the likes of Merzbow, Autechre and Conrad Schnitzler. It was a match made in heaven. Their first album Sensational meets Kouhei was recorded in only one day while being on tour and is nothing less than a mindbending masterpiece of raw, bouncy and chest-caving beats, spectral textures, gruff, marble-mouthed self-aggrandizement and unparalleled grit. Their equally outstanding second release Sensational meets Koyxeи followed in 2010. For their live performance, Sensational & Koyxeи will be joined by DJ Scotch Bonnet (Shigeru Ishihara aka DJ Scotch Egg). A maverick, crazed with energy and excess creativity, Ishihara's chance meeting with Matsunaga Kouhei spurred an isotopic explosion of activity and inspiration; the result was new dope style distorted bass and beats now championed by offshoot label, Small But Hard. Swapping GameBoys and 8-bit limitation for a hefty distortion unit, Ishihara delves deep into the world of bass-driven hip-hop breaks. DJ Scotch Bonnet melds dense distorted beats with his signature pop sensibility, referencing Scorn, NHK, and the dance music culture of new home-town, Berlin. Ishihara is prolific in his output, and has collaborated with E-Da (ex Boredoms) in epic psychedelic outfit Drum Eyes; works with Bo Ningen's Taigen Kawabe, and Dokkebi Q's Gorgonn in dub distortion unit Devilman and also plays bass in newly reformed electronic pioneers, Seefeel.
