Confronting Climate Breakdown
From Discourse to Action
Conference, Panel Discussions, Lectures, Workshops, Readings, Film
Monday 02/ Tuesday 03 March - Karl-Franzens-University Graz, schubertNEST, Literaturhaus
In 2019, millions of people - led by children and young people - succeeded in making the climate crisis caused by corporations and governments, which has already claimed countless lives, the number one topic with school strikes and massive worldwide protests in many countries. Nevertheless, the decision-makers are continuing as before. Adequate and fair climate protection measures are still lacking.
2020 is perhaps our last chance to turn the climate around. Where are the adult strikes? They could create the economic pressure that could persuade the rich and powerful to make concessions. What must we do to ensure that we succeed in making the fundamental changes we need? What roles can students and universities play in this? How can research be promoted that deals with approaches to the necessary major socio-ecological transformation that goes beyond existing systems?
Should we study less and protest more in 2020? What can we do to make a future worth living more likely? These are the questions we will be addressing in Elevate The Campus. We cordially invite all students, university staff and other interested parties to participate in the days before the Elevate Festival (4.-8.3.).
