Elevate Festival - Venues

Orpheum

The Orpheum, located in the middle of the up-and-coming Graz art and design quarter "Lend", has a very specific flair.
This results from the mixture of the sixties equipment of the foyer with the most current programs from the domestic cabaret and the international pop / rock scene.
Opened in 1899 as a variety theater "Orpheum", it was later cinema, then the Graz "House of Youth". Even today, the Orpheum attracts audiences of all ages. The unique is the in-house program, which is explicitly aimed at a young audience.

Dom im Berg

Due to its unique architecture the Dom im Berg is probably the most original venue in Graz. It is located right in the heart of the old town of Graz inside the Schossberg.

The idea to build a multi-functional art space inside the rock, was implemented in 1999 and opened at the National Exhibition in 2000.

A total area of 733 square meters and a height of 11 meters provide the perfect space for diverse events, from concerts of all styles over meetings, balls, theatrical performances, to clubbing, complex corporate presentations and customer receptions.

Mausoleum

An imperial place of rest next to the Dom. Turquoise domes stand out against the blue sky above the Mausoleum and, together with the Dom and Katharinenkirche church, define one of the city’s magnificent views. You could almost have been whisked away to the lands to the south, given how this ensemble enchants any visitor with more than just a hint of Florentine flair. Here in Graz, Emperor Ferdinand II had his court artist Giovanni Pietro de Pomis lay out the impressive tomb.

Dungeon

Located right underneath the Clocktower (Uhrturm), the Uhrturmkasematte is a small cave and a very impressive venue. The floor is dirty and rocky and the walls remind you of a medieval prison. The entrance can be through the elevator inside of the mountain, which has an extra stop at the Uhrturmkasematte, or through steps down right next to the clocktower.

Literaturhaus Graz

Quality, diversity, openness and relevance to the present are the guiding principles of the Literaturhaus Graz. Styrian, Austrian, German-speaking and international authors are presented in more than one hundred events per year with more than 10,000 visitors. A special focus is placed on the area of South-Eastern Europe, which is also dictated by the geographical location of the city.

Beyond the format of the classical reading, the Literaturhaus Graz sees itself as a discursive space: talks, lectures, discussions, performances and all current forms of mediation and reflection of literature have their place here.

esc medien kunst labor

The central task of the esc medien kunst lab is the production of art. The focus is on artistic processes that investigate and deal with new technologies and their effects on social developments.

The artistic activities of the esc medien kunst labor are determined by the fact that art is understood as a subsystem of social and societal reality; the media-specific aspect is derived from the designation of this reality by new cultural technologies, new media. In its productions and developments, the esc medien kunst labor prefers the new, the untested and the unsecured and bears the risk.

Mariahilferkirche

The church of Mariahilf is located in the Lendviertel at Mariahilferplatz. The Minoriten monastery is also attached to the church.

Every day at 4 p.m. a carillon in changing melodies rings out from the church towers of the church of Mariahilf. The carillon consists of seven swinging church bells , the „Schöfpungsgeläut“, which are struck with a hammer from the outside during the carillon, and 13 fixed mounted carillon bells, which are fitted with hammer devices inside and which sound exclusively during the carillon. The casting of the new carillon bells with tones from f sharp'' to h''', was carried out in 2009 by the company Perner in Passau.
