Elevate's festival theme 2020 is "Human Nature". What's your second thought about it?

I think about all the activists, of my friends, how kind and loving there are. How there trying to protect our ecosystems and humankind. That's what gives me hope, more than everything.

And your first?

Sadly, my first thought is "Is it human nature to destroy? Are we doomed?". But I refuse to believe it.

Quo Vadis Humanity? In 2009 Elevate's main theme was the climate crisis. 10 years have passed. Whats your take on the next 10?

Go big, change the world for real or lose everything. Already we are reaching the climate tipping points. There is no time left. My take on the next 10 years is to fight for climate justice and for a livable future.

The relationship of humans and technology - more reasons to be pessimistic or optimistic? Can you name some?

Technology is a blessing if we use it in a good way. If we use Solar energy per example. I would love to be an optimist. But technology can be a curse if we aren`t careful which one to use. Nuclear power is one of these curses.

Another problem in the mobility sector is the belief we just needed to change to electric cars. That is not the Solution. With every car more we need more resources, especially rare-earth. If we want to tackle climate crises, we have to overthink the way we live, our high consumption of products is no longer acceptable.

And our relationship with nature? Of course we are "part of it", but....where are we going?

Right now, we are the meteorite, crashing into the earth, killing species and destroying ecosystem as well as the livelihood of people living in already affected regions of the global south. I hope we are able to change the course. We will need the power of everyone for that

Psycho-spiritual crisis", "a psychotic society",... How bad is the status quo of humanity?

It's not humanity, it is the economic system. We have to leave capitalism behind, end the exploitation of humans and ecosystems. "System change not climate change" is one of our chants. Another world is possible. One without greed and destruction. Energy needs in the global north should not be more important than the lives of people in the global south.

A message to the Elevate Festival community? aka. what can you do?

No one is coming to save us. We have to be the change we want to see. Be loud, take action, don't be afraid of the fossil fuel industry. They should be afraid of us.

Elevate features many amazing artists in the music & arts programme. Can we meet you on the Dancefloor too?

Hell yes! I love to dance. “If I can't dance to it, it's not my revolution.” ;)
