Katharina Nocun (de)

Katharina Nocun is a civil rights activist, publicist and economist. She has led campaigns to protect civil rights throughout Germany, including for the citizens' movement Campact e.V., the Federation of German Consumer Organisations, Mehr Demokratie e.V. and the Free Software Foundation Europe e.V.. Edward Snowden thanked her personally for her campaign "Asylum for Snowden". She is currently bringing an action before the Federal Constitutional Court against several surveillance laws (including the reform of inventory data information and data retention) and, with a complaint to the EU Commission, forced a new Federal Data Protection Act. She is a member of the advisory board of the Whistleblower Network e.V. and ambassador for the Foundation for the Rights of Future Generations. In 2017 she was awarded the "Marburger Leuchtfeuer" by the Humanistische Union Marburg and the city of Marburg for her civil society commitment.

Since 2012, Nocun has been a regular guest on numerous television formats including Lanz, Illner, Maischberger and 3nach9 as an expert on data protection and digital democracy movements. She regularly publishes articles on data protection in numerous media, including Süddeutsche Zeitung, FAZ, Die Zeit and Der Freitag. She wrote as a columnist for the Handelsblatt. In her blog kattascha.de, she deals primarily with the social consequences of digitization and populist movements.
