CULK, the formation around singer and multi-instrumentalist Sophie Löw, has established itself as one of Austria's post-punk bands in recent years. The songs live on Löw's voice, which sounds like a mixture of Nico and Lydia Lunch - velvety, gentle and beguiling, yet self-confident and unruly. The lyrics of the album "Zerstreuen über Euch" (Siluh Rec), released last year, are a declaration of war against patriarchy. They deconstruct gender relations and denounce deep-seated power structures that can also be found in private life.(c) Antonia Mayer
