Okkyung Lee (kr)

Classically trained cellist Okkyung Lee moves her instrument towards noise improvisation. Her ecstatic playing is the starting point for a holistic deconstruction of the instrument, from which she peels every conceivable sound and focuses on physicality and expressiveness. They are raw and intense sound arrangements whose effect ranges from disturbing to claustrophobic. Their releases have been released on John Zorn's label Tzadik as well as Stephen O'Malley's label Ideologic Organ.
