Self Sovereign Identity

In the last few years, interest in so-called “user-centric identity” or “self-sovereign identity” has strongly increased. The ambitious goal is to overcome the current large Internet monopolies, to build alternative structures that better mirror our real-life society, and to give individuals full control over their digital selves in a way that is decentralized and privacy preserving.

In a workshop, we can introduce the background of this idea and some interesting developments in this field. We can also demonstrate concrete technologies such as the Sovrin Identity Blockchain, the RDF/Solid and XDI semantic data protocols, and the FreedomBox personal server. We can discuss what we can do on the technology level to help the idea of sovereign identity and privacy in the digital age.
