Music for Elevators

Suzanne Ciani

The permanent sound installation "Music for Elevators" was created in 2020 together with the Finnish artist Jimi Tenor. The concept behind the "Music for Elevators" project is to transform the ride on the Schlossberg lift in Graz into a sound journey with a specially interpreted version of lift music. Since 2020, Jimi Tenor, Brian Eno, Dorian Concept and Suzanne Ciani have collaborated on the project.

Modular synth alchemist Suzanne Ciani not only presented a multi-channel live set at the Elevate Festival 2025, but also activated the Schlossberg lift with a specially composed sound installation. The now established commission format “Music For Elevators”, which was implemented with the support of KIÖR and New Perspectives in Action, transformed the futuristic-looking lift cabin into an associative and sound-imaginative chamber of wonders – and can be experienced until 1 March 2026. Ciani's ethereal sci-fi sounds transform the Schlossberg into a cinematic backdrop.

A postcard vinyl pressed exclusively for this event is also available in the Elevate Shop.
