Austrian director Richard Ladkani (Sea of Shadows, The Ivory Game) tells the story of Juma Xipaia, an Indigenous leader from the heart of the Amazon, in his new film. Produced, among others, by Leonardo DiCaprio, the film has received more than twenty awards at festivals worldwide and was shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

YANUNI follows Juma Xipaia, an Indigenous leader from the heart of the Amazon, as she rises from environmental activism to the highest levels of Brazilian politics: the world’s first Ministry of Indigenous Peoples. While her husband Hugo works as an agent of Brazil’s environmental protection agency dismantling illegal gold mines, Juma navigates a tense landscape of power, threat, and motherhood—taking significant personal risks along the way.

Both intimate and epic, YANUNI tells a gripping story of Indigenous sovereignty, love, and the urgent struggle for our planet through striking, powerful imagery.
