Jens Balzer lives in Berlin, where he works as a writer and cultural critic, contributing to the Feuilleton of DIE ZEIT. His books include a three-volume history of pop culture and society in the Federal Republic of Germany: “Das entfesselte Jahrzehnt. Sound und Geist der 70er”, “High Energy. Die Achtziger - das pulsierende Jahrzehnt”, and “No Limit. Die Neunziger - das Jahrzehnt der Freiheit” (Rowohlt Berlin, 2019-2023), as well as the essay “Ethik der Appropriation” (Matthes & Seitz Berlin, 2022). His most recent book “After Woke” (Matthes & Seitz Berlin, 2024) topped the nonfiction bestseller list from DIE ZEIT, ZDF, and Deutschlandfunk Kultur, made the shortlist for the Tractatus Prize for Philosophical Essay Writing, and appeared on the SPIEGEL bestseller list.
