Jouanna Hassoun (de)

Jouanna Hassoun, who fled the civil war in Lebanon and has Palestinian roots, has been active as a political educator for over 15 years. As a co-founder of the organization Transaidency, she has been engaged in political education and humanitarian aid since 2015. Her focus is on promoting Palestinian-Jewish dialogue as well as combating anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.

Through the format “Trialog,” she creates a brave space in schools for open discussions and the exchange of sensitive topics. With Transaidency, she leads the project “Build Bridges, Not Barriers – Brücken bauen!” which offers a participatory perspective on Israel-Palestine and the Middle East conflict.

For her dedication, Jouanna Hassoun was awarded the State Merit Order of Berlin in 2015. Together with Shai Hoffmann, she received the Human Rights Award of Tonhalle Düsseldorf in 2025 and the Ambassador Award for Democracy and Tolerance in 2024. Her other honors include the Peace Prize from the Klaus Jensen Foundation, the German Dream Award, and the Klara-Franke Prize. She was also honored at a young age for co-founding the project ‘Mädchen Kultur Treff Dünja.’
