Berit Gwendolyn Gilma is a critical artist, researcher, curator, author and activist based in Berlin. With works in the nexus of art, politics and technology, she is currently focusing on machine ethics and aesthetics of secrecy. Her bachelor thesis with the title of the same name will be published as a book in 2019. She has a background in Graphic Design and New Media and holds a BA in Visual Communication from the University of the Arts in Berlin where she studied under Joachim Sauter (art + com), Fons Hickmann (M23) and Ai Weiwei. As a Fulbright scholarship holder, she will continue her studies in the USA.

Before that, she studied sociology with a focus on gender studies at the Karl-Franzens-University in Graz, and as an exchange student she visited the New School in New York City, USA. She was also a visiting scholar at RMIT university in Melbourne, Australia.

She is the curator for the art department of the Elevate festival in Graz, Austria and guest curator for the Dark Mofo Festival in Hobart, Tasmania. She also worked for Nome gallery Berlin and studio Ai Weiwei. She published in the onlinemagazine furtherfield London and collaborated with artists like Adam Harvey and Jacob Appelbaum.
