Elevate the 21st Century – Discourse and Film Programme

Similar to the musical approach, the political aspect of the festival sets out to make the audience aware of selected important topics of our time. Each year, the Elevate Festival has a central motto, aligning different thematic aspects under one umbrella.

In 2011, “Elevate the 21st Century” will reflect upon the ideas and expectations of life in the future that existed in the past century, as well as shed light on visions which have a large potential to shape our future. Considering the fast pace of change in these days of technological advancement and the dangers of the multiple crises situations, it is important to reflect on the ongoing changes with a historical perspective as well as a scientific approach.

The Elevate Festival team and the invited speakers and panellists will contribute to this important discourse presenting various formats - from panel discussions to film presentations including Q&As, workshops and lectures - encouraging the audience to take part rather than passively consume.

In previous years, Elevate featured guests such as: Jimmy Wales, Nnimmo Bassey, Iara Lee, Mike Bonanno of The Yes Men, Pat Mooney, Cynthia McKinney, Bill McKibben, Percy Schmeiser, David Bollier, Amy Goodman, Phil Zimmermann, Danny Schechter, Wenonah Hauter, David Barstow, Paul D. Miller aka. DJ Spooky, and many more..
