One Week To Go! Elevate starts October 20th in Graz
Thursday,13 Oct 11 08:38This year, the Elevate Festival again presents five nights packed with concerts, live acts, and DJs from all over the world and five days of lectures, discussions, workshops and documentary films, taking place in unique venues inside the historic Schlossberg - the hill in the center of Graz - and its surroundings.
Festival Opening Night
To kick off the festival on Thursday, Johan Galtung, the “father of academic peace-research” and winner of the Right Livelyhood Award, will focus his speech on the future in the 21st century. Furthermore, the chairman of Greenpeace International, Kumi Naidoo, and “Democracy Now!”-correspondent Sharif Abdel Kouddous will speak to the audience in Graz live via video stream.
After a literature- and music-performance of Marlene Streeruwitz, B.Fleischmann and Christoph Kurzmann, the music-program of the festival will kick off. In addition to house and electronic music, an audio-visual-show of Robin Fox will amaze the audience. With his green laser he will make geometric forms dance on the walls of the Schlossberg tunnels.
Lab – Music workshops
In addition to the music and discourse-programme, the Elevate Festival offers the possibility to get in contact with the artists personally and get some tips about music production.
Over a period of three days, artists will be taking part in workshops and lectures at Forum Stadtpark, sharing their expertise in music production, digital DJing and visual art. Workshops designed specifically for children provide a chance to playfully create sounds.
Music Talks
The Elevate Music Talks allow the audience some insight into the artist’s personal history and their individual approach to production and reception of music. This year’s format will see the first cooperation with the British webzine Resident Advisor and will revolve around questions and discussions regarding the future of Bass Music, as well as electronic music in general.
Literature
The new literature festival „hoergeREDE“ presents six world premieres of acoustic art pieces that were written and composed specifically for this occasion. They will be performed from October 20th to 23rd in the „Dom im Berg“ and in the historical halls of the „Minoriten“ in Graz.
Detailed information about the program, application forms for the workshops and information about all artists and guests can be found on the festival homepage.
