Since 2008, Elevate has a strong focus on the worsening socio-ecological crisis. Climate change is one of the factors that will determine future developments. It represents the biggest threat that mankind has ever had to face and is already destroying numerous existences and ecosystems. The over-exploitation of resources and industrial agriculture are major contributors as well. Human activities are responsible for this, the sixth mass extinction in the history of life on Earth.
While political and economic elites continue to bank on technology and economic growth as the solution for all problems, and international efforts to reduce resource consumption and emissions are failing (or are aiming too low), promising alternative solutions and encouraging grassroots initiatives that everybody can become a part of are emerging everywhere. These will be the focal point of this event, next to an analysis of current developments and a forecast of potential futures.
