European Citizens' Dialogue: EU Data Protection

about the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) - starts May 2018

In May 2018, the new EU rules on data protection will enter into force. Privacy and data protection are fundamental rights in the EU. At the same time, rapid technological developments and globalisation have brought new challenges for the protection of personal data, since the scale of the collection and sharing of personal data has increased enormously.

The new General Data Protection Regulation is an improved regulatory framework and should ensure consistent protection of personal data in the EU.

What are the principles of the new data protection framework? What are the changes? By which means are personal data protected? What kind of obligations does it bring for companies and public authorities? Which rights do citizens have? What do the new rules mean for agreements with non-EU countries?

Discuss these and many other questions with three renowned experts: Ralf Sauer, European Commission; Max Schrems, author and data protection activist and Andrea Jelinek, Head of the Austrian Data Protection Authority. Join the Debate moderated by Corinna Milborn!
