Zara Alexandrova, born 1980 in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria and Zoran Georgiev, born 1985 in Gevgelija, North Macedonia are based in Berlin, Germany. Sie started working together as an artist collective in 2018. Working with various quotidian objects is the key element in their practice. Their projects are often developed in an ongoing series where a particular subject is thoroughly viewed from various angles. Themes like nationalist kitsch and populism, inequality, misogyny, domestic violence, conspiracy theories, wasted political ideologies and philistinism are regularly in the focus of their research. In their latest collaboration projects, they are searching for parallels between traditional folk art, contemporary art and pop culture, touching on subjects like national identity, populism, ethnic stereotypes and myths, the value of art and their impact on our perception of reality. In 2021 the artist collective took part in CCN - Artist in Residence, Kulturvermittlung Steiermark, Graz, Austria and developed several site-specific projects for Graz. The project “Digital Dictatorship” was selected for the Elevate Festival 2022.
