Elevate Concert: EXIT VOID | KMRU in Berlin

With a collaboration in Berlin, Elevate Festival is once again expanding its programme beyond Graz. On 23 April 2026, the Volksbühne will host "Exit Void | KMRU" – a production that explores open, multi-layered sound processes.

EXIT VOID is an Austrian experimental music collective comprising Anja Plaschg (Soap & Skin), Manfred Engelmayr, Katrin Euller, Alex Kranabetter, Wolfgang Lehmann and David Reumüller. The sound collective emerged from their joint work on a soundtrack for a video installation and developed into a permanent ensemble that uses electronic and acoustic instruments on an equal footing. Compositional structures alternate with open, improvised passages.

The band members are from different, clearly profiled backgrounds:

Anja Plaschg (voice, electronics) has made herself a name internationally as Soap&Skin. Her releases and film scores combine minimalist arrangements, dense electronic layering and her signature vocal style.

David Reumüller (drums, electronics) works as a drummer and producer with various bands and studios, shifting in and out between experimental pop, electronic and improvised music.

Alex Kranabetter (trumpet, electronics) is active in various groups and ensembles from the Austrian jazz and improvisation scene, and develops electroacoustic extensions for the trumpet.

Wolfgang Lehmann (guitar, electronics) is a guitarist and producer active in band projects ranging from electronic music to ambient music and free improvisation.

Manfred Engelmayr (guitar) is a member of the experimental rock band Bully (with Didi Kern) and has been a key figure in the Austrian noise and avant-rock scene for years.

Katrin Euller (electronics) creates live electronic projects and sound installations operating at the interface between performance and composition.

KMRU (Joseph Kamaru) is a sound artist born in Nairobi and based in Berlin, who specializes in field recording, experimental composition, installation and performance. In his works he explores augmented listening practices, ecologies and sonic memories that transcend conventional auditory frameworks. Performing internationally, his work was exhibited at Berlin Atonal, CTM Festival, Barbican Centre, Ars Electronica and Venice Architecture Biennale. His music is released on labels such as Editions Mego, Touch and Subtext. His new album Kin released in February 2026.
