Jakob Winter is an investigative journalist at the Austrian news magazine profil. With a preference for investigating corruption, extremism and fake news. In the wake of the Ibiza affair, he uncovered party-affiliated associations that were used to receive hidden donations. During the corona pandemic, he dealt intensively with mistakes made by the authorities in the virus hotspot Ischgl (Tyrol). Winter prefers to spend his nights studying sensitive files - or hanging out in illegal gambling establishments. Purely for research purposes, needless to say. In 2021, Winter set up faktiv - profil's fact checking platform - and continues to head the project to this day. He lectures on how best to debunk disinformation and how investigative journalists work at the University of Applied Sciences in Vienna, the Danube University in Krems and in school lectures. In his private life he is a runner, mountain climber and late riser.
