The most charismatic voice of the Hyperdub 20 showcase probably belongs to aya. With her, we are definitely on a meta-level. Sharp & edgy is the Manchester-born artist's demeanor, and the aesthetic of her sounds is more pointed. These move between deconstructed post-club, autotune-tinged spoken word and eccentric transdisciplinary experimentation. aya's tracks provide us with compressed energy, always restrained and on the verge of an outburst, but no less intense. The idiosyncratically twisted sounds are combined with emotionally charged lyrics that tell of sexuality, transformation and loss.
