Molecular biologist and "science buster" Martin Moder delivered a lecture titled Hirnamputierte Fruchtfliegen zur Tumorbekämpfung (Brain-amputated fruit flies for cancer therapy) in 2014 while wearing a fly costume, becoming the world’s first European Science Slam champion. He is active in the Society for Critical Thinking and is convinced that there has never been a more exciting time to be a molecular biologist.
The title of his dissertation is “Parallel genome-wide screens identify synthetic viable interactions between the BLM helicase complex and Fanconi anemia.” If you think no one understands that, the enthusiastic fitness enthusiast was nonetheless celebrated by the Austrian tabloid press as “Dr. Sixpack.”
In 2019, his book Genpool Party - Wie die Wissenschaft uns stärker, schlauer und weniger unausstehlich macht was published by Hanser.
In addition, on his YouTube channel M.E.G.A. (Make Europa Gscheit Again), he regularly and thoroughly debunks COVID myths and other pseudoscientific nonsense.
