Originated in 2005, fragments of an empire recorded their first, self-titled, album in spring 2009. The second, current album called I've left the house with light clothes only, now I'll never get warm again was released by Pumpkin Records. fragments of an empire clearly turn their backs to any radio-friendly conventions. Their compositions are not only characteristic for their length, but more for their suspenseful, densely woven sound architecture and their devotion to anger and sadness. The music trembles from inside: dark, tragical and elegiacal, but never without hope. Is "instrumental post rock" still the right term for this? Or is a categorization necessary at all? It seems as if fragments of an empire know how to knock at doors inside of us which have been locked for a long time. They offer fraternity to the despairing and fearful, the furious and the sorrowful.
