James Vasile is a long time user and advocate for sharing technology and creative media. He is the Executive Director of the FreedomBox Foundation, personal servers running a free software operating system, with free applications designed to create and preserve personal privacy. He is also Senior Counsel at the Software Freedom Law Center and a member of the Board at Open Source Matters, the non-profit behind Joomla. James holds a Juris Doctor (JD) from Columbia Law School, where he was a member of the law review and a Stone Scholar. He also has a bachelor's degree in political science and economics from Fordham University. He spent several years in the litigation department of Cravath, Swaine & Moore, where he worked on a range of cases and dealt with a variety of new media issues. James has also contributed code and documentation to numerous FOSS software projects.
