British Ecologist/farmer Mike Hands and his INGA Foundation are fighting one of the biggest contributors to tropical deforestation and global warming: slash and burn agriculture. Mike has labored for 25 years to develop and perfect a revolutionary small scale organic farming technique to replace slash and burn farming and provide small peasants with a sustainable low cost alternative so that they can grow healthy food and improve their livelihoods without being forced to cut down their precious forests. Since 250 million farmers across the world currently rely on slash and burn to survive, Mike's technique has the potential to save more carbon emissions annually than all global aviation combined - in a way that empowers the peasants, who he has been working with closely for many years.
