Decentralized Networks

Internet-lockdowns in Egypt and Libya, the firewall in China, censorship in Iran and the Wikileaks blocks in the US: Governments worldwide are trying to influence internet traffic. Not only the interest in political control and censorship is rising, but also the drive to make as big a profit from internet access as possible. Civil rights activists, journalists and many other people that depend on free communication are in grave danger due to these developments.

Developers worldwide are working on new hard- and software concepts that should make networks and communication safer at all times. From Mesh-networks, much like the local Funkfeuer network, to the FreedomBox: Decentralized and secure networks are a strong antidote against the censorship craze of totalitarian regimes - and those who might soon become one.
