Opening Speakers: Elizabeth Wathuti from Kenya and Adenike Oladosu from Nigeria

Lively and festive, but also astute and with great depth: the traditional opening show at the Graz Orpheum will once again whet the appetite for four days of festival intensity.

The Austrian pop diva Ankathie Koi with Upper Bavarian roots will host the Elevate Opening for the first time. The favourite role of the mullet wearer with a penchant for extravagant outfits is that of the Gender Trouble Maker, where she digs the macho out of her innermost being and puts it on stage - with a bold grin. Of course this is openly feminist, but without dogmas and rules. Except for one, which is: "Ned deppat sein!" - Viennese for "Don't be stupid!".

During the opening show there will be opening speeches by young African Activists Adenike Oladosu from Nigeria and Elizabeth Wathuti from Kenya.

Jacob Bilabel from the Berlin think tank Thema1 and Ariadne von Schirach will speak as well. Nnimmo Bassey, environmental activist and Alternative Nobel Prize winner from Nigeria, will once again pay Elevate a short visit.

There will be live music and performances by Finnish pop eccentric Jimi Tenor, Japanese singer Hatis Noit and local heroes of C.O.R.N.

From 20:00 - 01:00 you can walk into the Entropy Gardens at Orpheum Extra -  a VR work by the artist duo Depart aka Leonhard Lass and Gregor Ladenhauf. Their latest project deals with one of the most archetypal arts of mankind - gardening. The Entropy Gardens constructs a virtual garden as a poetic ecosystem and positions itself in the field of tension between experimental film, media art and computer games.

Booty Carrell aka Sebastian Reier is Byte FM radio host and resident DJ of the legendary club Goldener Pudel and will perform at Orpheum Foyer from 22:00 - 02:00. He calls himself "Vinyl-Archaeologist" and is searching for weird and beautiful songs from all over the world under the slogan "Making Global Sound Local". Amongst them, there are also pop hits that have never made it to international breakthrough.
