Indigenous Resistance
From the Arctic to the Amazon
Saturday, 03 Mar 2018
Our planet is being devastated by extractive industries digging up the earth for fossil fuels, metals and other resources. Driven by global capitalism they are poisoning our precious soil and water, destroying whole ecosystems, heating up the atmosphere and causing mass extinction. But people are confronting them. They are engaged in courageous acts of resistance everywhere.
Indigenous people are fighting on the frontlines for oftentimes they are the first ones being attacked. Their rights and dignity are violated and in the 21st century privileged white men are still treating them with disrespect and violence.
In this session indigenous activists will speak about their struggles. From Standing Rock and current battles against pipelines and extraction in Turtle Island to the defense of the Amazon forest and their livelihoods in Africa and Arctic Europe, they will share their stories of resistance, repression and hope.
